In the vast wasteland that is Jacksonville BBQ, Sonny's stands all alone at the bottom of the pack. I haven't been to a Sonny's in 5-6 years, I remember feeling sick the last time I left there, the same way I feel today. First the pros: a) the service is great, I left my waitress $5 to make up for all the times I wont be coming back, b) the sweet tea is fantastic, c) the salad bar is terrific, hard to screw up lettuce, and d) a variety of sauces, the Chipotle is pretty good. e) TVs on the wall now so there's something to do when you decide you cant eat this crap. Now the bad. The pulled pork is the worst I have ever had, and I mean EVER! Its been sitting in some sort of bath, the stuff disintegrates in your mouth, it has no texture and is like chewing cat food. This place even manages to screw up the Texas toast, which is usually the only thing you can rely on at a Florida BBQ joint. The fries and cole slaw were good, but I was overcharged $2 for the daily special, and a 10 minute huddle to figure out that $12.99 and $10.99 for the advertised daily special means they owe me two bucks. I just paid the $16 and left, never to return. You know what is supporting Sonny's and keeping them in business....old people, and they arrive for the early bird around 5:00 by the carloads.

I think they got a new grill master. I have been going there for years but the last 2 times the baby back ribs were horrible. I gave them the benefit of the doubt after the first one, but the second was worse! I order take out and I guess they give the garbage to us. Will not go back

For cheap and fast BBQ, Sonny's is the better of the chains. This location has friendly and fast service. I can be in and out in less than an hour for lunch. Today I had the dark meat, chicken lunch platter with green beans, creamy Mac n cheese, and some pretty yummy cornbread. Then there was the ginormous glass of fresh iced tea that never needed refilling. I did not leave hungry. It's not amazing BBQ, but it's pretty decent for a decent price

My relatives brought me straight here as soon as my plane came in from California. I gotta say that everything here is delicious and the service is amazing! Ordered a sweet tea, which was served pretty much in a barrel. I didn't need a refill; it was so ginormous. Had their brisket sandwich on garlic bread which was so perfect. The brisket was so flavorful. My grandma - thank god for our sweet, patient server - ordered wings, fried with no sauce, and they were perfectly done. I loved Sonny's so much that I came back in again the next day. Sweetest servers ever and the food came out fast. Can't wait to come back in again when I'm in town.

We had no problems at all at the restaurant. We had fast courteous service lunch was great. My husband would've preferred to have his sweet tea refilled one more time. Really great lunch I was very happy.

I have eaten here for years, and have never been disappointed! The sliced pork is the best, always served fast and hot. The smoke flavor is just rite, not too harsh, but full of smoky goodness. The cole slaw is cold and creamy and the perfect size and crispness. I like to mix the smokin hot bbq with the sonny's mild to have the perfect balance of heat and savory. The waitress today was very attentive, and was there before I could need for anything. Good southern BBQ great service you can not go wrong!

I don't get as excited as I use to. I've over eaten BBQ here so many times I'm sick of it. Whole if your salad lover they have an excellent salad bar I'm a meat lover. I don't look forward to this anymore because it seems like they drown my ribs or whatever I eat in sauce. I mean suffocate it drown it glob it etc. YES ALOT OF SAUCE. I don't like that and even when I tell em it seems like they don't listen. This location is kinda going to the dogs but hey it's still delicious it's still a good friendly place to eat. Given sometimes it's abit of a wait but not many good BBQ joints around here cause Bonos and woodsy sure do not cut it but maybe ill go over there see how they're doing. It seems like maybe just maybe they should re model abit. Floors are a little icky and tables are small. This is a family place so obviously big famys come. When they do i can tell everyone's squished. TRY HAVING A TODDLER lol. No fun being all cramped up with five other fat butts. While service always has it's ups and downs depending on your waitress it's a good place but I'm not excited to go anymore. I actually try to avoid it cause I'm not an extra sauce on my BBQ kinda girl. I like to Taste the meat with the sauce but not feel like I'm drinking the sauce you know ? So I know my vote will no where near away anything but maybe you'll read something and be like ahhhh maybe not this place tonight.

Great food! We went to the Sonny's in Port Orange, FL, enjoyed the food there tremendously. Same experience here. We ordered the family feast of four for $39.99. It was real good. Our waitress April, was very professional and polite. The only thing I would say my family and I were surprised about was them running out of pink lemonade! We wound up having to drink Sprite instead which my wife and I prefer or kids not kids not to drink because of the excess sugar. Oh well!

Not a huge fan of Sonny's BBQ as there are better places in Jax. But Service is good at this location and portions are pretty big. Decent choice of Sauces,...good salad bar...

Years ago we ate here often and it was great. The menu has changed and we weren't impressed. They don't have the thin sliced beef anymore - just thick sliced brisket. We won't be going back - better barbecue elsewhere. None of us had the ribs so I don't know if they are still good.

I was a loyal patron for 20 odd years. When pulled pork became available I went elsewhere. I like my pulled pork sandwich, Memphis style, with cole slaw and put my own sauce on as I eat. Now how much slaw does it take to make a good sandwich? About 2 tablespoons. The cole slaw should be dry so the sandwich does not become soaked with the white milky substance pervasive in Sonny's cole slaw. For years I ordered a small container probably 2 ozs. for $.50 to put on to my sandwich. It's now $1. It took 6-8 napkins to soak up enough liquid in order to be left with cole slaw dry enough for my sandwich. That amount of Cole slaw is now $1. It's not on the menu. So I ordered a pulled pork sandwich Carolina style which comes with Cole slaw on it along with Special sauce. I had them hold the sauce, which is available on the table by the way. I paid $7.99 for this sandwich. The regular pulled pork sandwich is about $6.50. So I was charged about &2.50 for the Cole slaw, about one tablespoon full. For about the SE I could have ordered a side of Cole slaw. After I complained to my lovely waitress, who has served me hundreds of times, she brought me the $1 container of Cole slaw and charged my the pulled pork sandwich amount instead of the over priced Carolina version. The Cole slaw is now much less moist than before, to an acceptable degree. I hope Sonny pulls the Carolina sandwich from the menu and adds a Memphis sandwich at a reasonable price.
